Perched on the rim of the Mount Batur caldera in Kintamani, Pura Ulun Danu Batur is the spiritual epicenter for all of Bali’s water management. Rebuilt high on the crater rim in 1926 following a volcanic eruption, this sprawling complex consists of nine temples and hundreds of shrines. Local farmers and Subak leaders from across Bali make regular pilgrimages here to pay homage to the water deity who ensures the fertility of the island's fields.
